The two-day negotiations between the finance ministers of the G20 countries will end without a joint statement due to differences between the major powers regarding the war in Ukraine.

 This is reported by Reuters.

During its presidency of the G20, India hopes to reach consensus on multilateral bank reform, a global guideline for cryptocurrencies and speed up debt settlement for vulnerable countries, but "the Russia-Ukraine conflict has cast a long shadow over global diplomacy."

According to a representative of the Indian government, most Western countries, including the United States, Great Britain, Germany and France, insisted on strong condemnation of Russia and its war in Ukraine. However, the Russian Federation and its partner China opposed any such move, the unnamed Indian official said.

In addition, India, as the host of the meeting, was unable to prepare a final communique acceptable to all members. According to the official, some countries have insisted on calling the conflict a war, while Russia calls its war of aggression a "special military operation".

India has taken a largely neutral stance, refusing to blame Russia for the invasion and calling for a diplomatic solution, as well as increasing its purchases of discounted oil from the aggressor countries.

 G20 summit

The summit in New Delhi is the third financial meeting of the G20 under India's chairmanship.

At the last summit, the G20 foreign ministers were also unable to agree on a final communique without a position on Ukraine. This was hindered by claims from Russia and China. Because of this, an outcome document will be issued at the two-day meeting instead of an official joint statement.
