Burbok called on the UN to join forces for the return of children kidnapped by the Russian Federation to Ukraine

The United Nations (UN) should join forces with the authorities of Ukraine, other states and international organizations to return Ukrainian children kidnapped by the Russian invaders and taken to the territory of the aggressor country.

This was stated by German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock during a speech at the UN Security Council in New York.

The head of the German Foreign Ministry also called for an investigation into the deportation of children carried out by the Russian Federation on the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine.

"I want to call on all of you to join forces with international organizations, the authorities of Ukraine and non-governmental organizations to investigate the deportation to Russia, and to jointly find ways to bring these children home," Burbok said.

The German minister emphasized that the deported children belong to their parents, and they should be returned home to Ukraine immediately.

Also, in her speech, the head of the German Foreign Ministry urged the Russian authorities not to try to deceive the world, even if the Kremlin engages in self-deception. She noted that the war crimes of the Russian occupiers in Ukraine since the start of the full-scale invasion "the world has seen with its own eyes" and "heard the stories of mothers whose children were stolen by the Russian government."

It will be recalled that earlier the head of the German Foreign Ministry, Annalena Burbok, called for the reform of international law so that the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin would be brought to justice for starting the war against Ukraine.

 ICC warrant for Putin's arrest

In mid-March 2023, the International Criminal Court in The Hague issued an arrest warrant for Putin and child rights commissioner Maria Lvova-Belova - the court considers them guilty of the illegal deportation of Ukrainian children to the Russian Federation.

It should be noted that according to the decision of the International Criminal Court, Putin must be arrested in 123 countries of the world that have ratified the Rome Statute or recognized the jurisdiction of the court in The Hague. At the same time, the arrest warrant for Putin and Lvova-Belova will remain in effect until the end of their lives.

Earlier, the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, Andriy Kostin, stated that the Hague warrant allows Putin to be arrested outside the Russian Federation and brought to court.
