Russia's decision to suspend its participation in the "grain deal" will cause losses to millions of people around the world.
This was stated by the representative of the National Security Council at the White House, Adam Hodge.
"Russia's decision to suspend participation in the Black Sea Grain Initiative will worsen food security and harm millions of vulnerable people around the world. The Black Sea Grain Initiative has played a critical role in reducing food prices around the world, which have skyrocketed as a result of Russia's brutal and unprovoked invasion of Ukraine ", Hodge emphasized.
He noted that most of the grain went to those regions that were experiencing the greatest shortage of food. At the same time, the delivery of grain to world markets lowered food prices for everyone.
"By preventing this grain from reaching the markets, we are harming people around the world, and we are already seeing a jump in world wheat prices as a result of Russia's suspension of its participation in the Initiative. We call on the Russian government to immediately reverse its decision," Hodge added.
Russia's withdrawal from the "grain agreement"
It will be recalled that today, July 17, the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmytro Peskov stated that his country refuses to continue the "grain agreement" under which Ukraine could export its grain through the Black Sea.
He explained this by the fact that Russia allegedly does not fulfill the terms of the agreement.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyi has already reacted to this situation. He noted that the "grain agreement" can be continued even after the withdrawal of the aggressor country.
