A meeting between the heads of state diplomacy between the US and China took place again, in which Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and high-ranking Chinese diplomat Wang Yi took part. It took place on the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit in Indonesia.
This was reported by the US State Department and Xinhu.
The Chinese side called on the United States to take "concrete actions" to bring the countries closer together, "give impetus" to stable US-China relations, expand diplomatic and security communication channels, and improve communication efficiency.
According to Washington, this meeting was part of the ongoing efforts of the administration of US President Joe Biden aimed at maintaining open channels of communication with the PRC to clarify the interests of the United States, responsible management of competition with Beijing by reducing the risk of misperceptions and miscalculations.
According to State Department spokesman Matthew Miller, Blinken used the meeting to promote US interests and values to express concern about China's actions.
The Secretary of State "made it clear" that the United States, along with allies and partners, "will advance our vision of a free, open and rules-based international order," he added.
According to the director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, both sides reached a consensus "thanks to thorough and frank communication." Blinken previously had a conversation with a Chinese diplomat during his visit to China last month.
Wang said that the US side should reflect on the key point that led to difficulties in Sino-US relations, for the consensus reached between the Chinese and US presidents at their meeting in Bali, and to fulfill the promises made by US leader Joe Biden.
The Chinese diplomat also elaborated on the country's position on the Taiwan issue. Wang demanded that the United States "refrain from senseless interference in the internal affairs" of the PRC or "undermining the sovereignty and territorial integrity" of the country.
In addition, he added, the US should stop its economic, trade, scientific and technological "suppression" of China, and lift "its illegal and unreasonable" sanctions.
The parties also actively studied the possibilities of conducting consultations on issues of the Asia-Pacific region and maritime affairs.
US-China relations
In recent months, many new disputes and contradictions have arisen in the relations between the United States and China. The new round of political escalation is connected with the desire of the United States to diversify the production of many components and deprive China of its manufacturing monopoly. International relations were also worsened by Chinese balloons spotted in US airspace.
Against this backdrop, CIA Director William Burns recently said that the US should diversify its supply chains by phasing out goods and services from China.
