President Volodymyr Zelenskyі harshly appealed to NATO members because of their position towards our country. Because Kyiv received a signal that allies are discussing the wording at the summit without Ukraine on the sidelines.
Such a statement is distributed by the Telegram channel of the head of state.
"We value our allies. We value our common security. And we always value an open conversation. Ukraine will be represented in Vilnius, at the NATO summit. Because that is respect. But Ukraine also deserves respect. Now, on the way to Vilnius, we received signals that wording is being discussed without Ukraine," Zelenskyі wrote.
In turn, the president emphasized that this wording only refers to the invitation, and not to Ukraine's membership.
"Unprecedented and absurd - when there is no time frame for both the invitation (!) and Ukraine's membership; and when, instead, some strange wording is added about "conditions" even for the invitation of Ukraine..." - stressed Zelenskyі.
According to the head of state, it looks like the allies are not ready either to invite Ukraine to NATO or to make it a member of the Alliance.
"So, there remains an opportunity to negotiate Ukraine's membership in NATO - in negotiations with Russia. And for Russia, this means motivation to continue its terror. Uncertainty is weakness. And I will openly discuss this at the summit," Zelenskyі concluded.
NATO summit in Vilnius. What Ukraine expects and what is promised in the Alliance
We will remind that the two-day NATO summit started today in Vilnius. At which NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg promised that Ukraine would receive a "strong message" from the allies following the meeting.
However, later pessimistic statements began to be heard from the mouths of some representatives of NATO member countries. In particular, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary Péter Szijártó said today that the proposed final statement of the NATO summit in Vilnius allegedly does not contain a specific timetable for Ukraine's accession to the Alliance.
Although it is still too early to draw conclusions, since the final communiqué, which should be agreed in NATO, has not yet been published.
But let us recall that Ukraine expects a clear political invitation to NATO from its allies, expecting to receive a place in the Alliance after the end of the war with Russia
