Most countries support Ukraine joining NATO. And those states that are in doubt pay attention only to the decision of US President Joe Biden.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi stated this in an interview with CNN.
He stated that it is difficult for Ukraine to survive without the help of the USA and this is a fact. The President noted that absolute facts must always be recognized.
According to him, without the help of the USA, the war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine will turn into a frozen conflict. At the same time, with the help of the States, our state de-occupies the territory. The president noted that the de-occupation of each subsequent city is a weakening of Putin, and this should not be feared.
Zelenskyi noted that the US is currently deciding whether Ukraine will be invited to NATO.
"Most NATO countries support the invitation of Ukraine to NATO. Those who doubt - look only at President Biden. And President Biden knows that it depends on him and it will be his decision," he added.
The president also noted that it is Biden who should decide on a decision regarding Ukraine these days. He added that he has a great relationship with the President of the United States.
"He (Biden - ed.) supports our future in NATO, but now we are talking about the very, very important motivation of our soldiers. The invitation (of Ukraine to NATO - ed.) is a technical thing. Just wording. This is important, it will motivate our soldiers to rapid de-occupation through the mobilization of people," he said.
At the same time, Zelenskyi emphasized that Ukraine understands that it cannot become a member of the Alliance until the end of the war.
"But this signal is very important and depends on Biden," the president added.
Ukraine's entry into NATO
Ukraine wants to receive a signal of support for its accession to NATO after the end of the war already at the summit of the Alliance in Vilnius, which will be held on July 11-12.
Zelenskyi believes that the state needs to receive clear guarantees of joining the Alliance, after which the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin will be further weakened and will be forced to negotiate with the West.
In addition, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stated that at the summit, the partners will decide on the rapprochement of Ukraine with the Alliance.
At the same time, White House spokeswoman Karin Jean-Pierre recently said that Ukraine needs to implement reforms to meet NATO standards before joining the Alliance.
