Ukraine protested to the Georgian ambassador through Saakashvili and sent him to Tbilisi

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine expressed a strong protest to Georgian Ambassador Giorgia Zakarashvili due to the significant deterioration of Mikheil Saakashvili's condition and sent him to Tbilisi for consultation.

This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Zakarashvili was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to fulfill the instructions of the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi.

The Georgian diplomat was told that this attitude towards Saakashvili is absolutely unacceptable. Yes, the authorities of Georgia should stop bullying the citizen of Ukraine.

"In connection with this, the Ambassador of Georgia to Ukraine, Giorgi Zakarashvili, was invited to return to Tbilisi to conduct consultations in order to find ways to resolve the situation," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

In addition, the Ukrainian side emphasized its readiness to urgently discuss the issue of transporting Saakashvili to Ukraine for treatment and care.

 State of Saakashvili

Yesterday, for the first time after a long break, Saakashvili appeared at the court session in an online format. He lost a lot of weight during his hospital stay.

It should be noted that the former president of Georgia was detained by local law enforcement officers in October 2021 for "abuse of power and persecution of political opponents", for which he was sentenced in absentia to six years in prison.

During his stay in prison, Saakashvili went on hunger strike eight times. After that, he was hospitalized at a local clinic, where he is now.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi is concerned about Saakashvili's condition. He called on the Georgian authorities to transfer Saakashvili to Ukraine for the necessary treatment.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, noted that Zelensky's instruction to protest and offer the Georgian ambassador to leave Ukraine is a very harsh form of diplomacy.
