The head of the European Commission promises to hold Putin accountable for the war in Ukraine

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, promised to do everything possible to bring Russian President Vladimir Putin to justice for the war against Ukraine.

"We will leave no stone unturned to bring Putin and his henchmen to justice," she said in a statement on the occasion of the opening of the center for the investigation of Russian aggression against Ukraine.

"The new international prosecution center will play a key role in ensuring that the perpetrators are brought to justice," said von der Leyen, as quoted by DPA.

The center is located in the EU agency Eurojust in The Hague. Ukraine, several EU states and the International Space Station are involved in its work. Eurojust has already established a central database of evidence on war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide.

Western countries are looking for ways to prosecute Russia, possibly by a special tribunal. The International Criminal Court (ICC), also located in The Hague, has already issued an international arrest warrant for Putin on suspicion of war crimes - the deportation of minors from Ukraine to Russia.
