CIA Director William Burns secretly visited Ukraine in early June. Plans to liberate Ukrainian territories from the occupiers were revealed to him.
This was reported by The Washington Post.
According to the publication's sources, Burns' trip was secret. During the visit, he met with President Volodymyr Zelenskyi and the top leadership of Ukrainian intelligence.
The newspaper notes that the purpose of the visit was to confirm the commitment of the US to the exchange of intelligence data that will help Ukraine in the fight against the aggressor.
According to the interlocutors, in private conversations the Ukrainian military leadership expressed "bullish" confidence to the head of the CIA that their goal is to liberate a large part of the territories by the fall, move missile and artillery systems to the border with Crimea, advance eastward, and start negotiations with the Russian Federation for the first time since a long pause.
"Russia will go to negotiations only when it feels threatened," said a high-ranking Ukrainian official.
The offensive of Ukraine
Our defenders continue offensive actions in several directions. Currently, active battles are taking place in the Melitopol, Berdyan and Bakhmut directions, where Ukrainian soldiers are having success.
In the south, the Armed Forces continue to put pressure on the enemy in order to break through the defense of the occupying forces. Near Bakhmut, the defenders advance on the flanks, and the enemy suffers losses.
Earlier, the General Staff reported that the Ukrainian forces near Bakhmut seized the strategic initiative and are conducting offensive actions on a wide front.
