Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba had a telephone conversation with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. During the conversation, the minister emphasized that the time has come for clarity on the issue of Ukraine's membership in the Alliance.
This was reported by the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dmytro Kuleb, on Twitter.
"During our conversation today, I thanked NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg for his efforts to make the NATO summit in Vilnius successful. Ukraine is actively working with all NATO allies to convince them: the time for clarity regarding Ukraine's membership in NATO has come," Kuleba wrote.
What to expect from the NATO summit in Vilnius
We will remind that the NATO summit is to be held on July 11-12, 2023 in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, where President Volodymyr Zelenskyі was invited.
As the head of state stated, our country is preparing for the summit and currently there are all grounds for a political invitation of Ukraine to the Alliance.
At the same time, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg assured that Ukraine will receive a "signal" regarding membership, and Estonian Prime Minister Kaia Kallas announced a "surprise" for our country.
However, not all member states of the Alliance are unanimous in sending a "signal" to Ukraine, some call for decisive steps. It is also known that the allies are already considering several options for security guarantees for Ukraine.
