The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel sharply reacted to the accusations of the press secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Maria Zakharova, about "glorification of Nazism" and stated that Russia has no right to point at Israel.
Lior Khayat, the press officer of the Israeli Foreign Ministry, announced this on his Twitter.
"The position of Israel rejecting the glorification of accomplices in the murder of Jews remains unchanged. No one has the right to point out to the State of Israel, the Israeli Foreign Ministry and Israeli diplomats the importance of preserving the memory of the Holocaust and fighting against the distortion of historical truth," wrote Lior Hayyat.
The reason for such reaction of Zakharova was the statement of the ambassador of Israel to Ukraine Mykhailo Zabrodskyi. The diplomat stated that "it is wrong to condition Ukraine's support and aid on the fact that Ukraine will stop renaming streets or calling Bandera or Melnyk heroes" and added that "if you look at things realistically, this will of course not happen."
After that, the press secretary of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, sharply criticized the Israeli ambassador, stating that "if, according to Mykhailo Brodsky, Kyiv has the right to such heroes and identity, then this is already a problem of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel. No one has the right to such heroes."
Next, the representative of the Russian diplomatic agency, in the aggressive style of Russian propagandists, issued typical accusations against Ukraine and its historical figures. Zakharova called Stepan Bandera and Andrii Melnyk "spawn of hell", "a shame of Ukraine" and added that this is "a glorification of Nazism".
