The EU sent another 1.5 billion euros of macro-finance to Ukraine

Today, the European Commission is paying Ukraine another 1.5 billion euros in macro-financial assistance, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced on Thursday.

"Today we are paying another 1.5 billion euros of macro-financial aid to Ukraine," von der Leyen wrote on Twitter.

The head of the European Commission emphasized that "we help to support the state services and infrastructure of Ukraine in its courageous struggle for freedom."

"There will be more. We have just offered stable financial support until 2027. We are in this for the long term," von der Leyen said.

On November 9, 2022, the European Commission proposed to provide Ukraine with 18 billion euros of support in the form of loans for 2023 through the new macro-financial assistance instrument MFA+. On December 14, 2022, the European Parliament and the EU Council adopted the relevant decision. The European Commission and Ukraine signed a memorandum of understanding and a credit line agreement on January 16, both of which entered into force on the same day. The first tranche of loans in the amount of 3 billion euros was paid on January 17, 2023.
