NATO aims to hold the first meeting of the new body of cooperation with Ukraine - the Ukraine-NATO Council - at the Vilnius Summit in July.
This was announced by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg following the two-day meeting of the Alliance's defense ministers.
"We are also working on the creation of a new Ukraine-NATO Council, where Ukraine will be equal with NATO allies, will consult and make decisions of common interest. Our ambition is to have the first meeting of the new Council in Vilnius together with President Zelenskyі," he said.
"We agreed that NATO's doors are open and Ukraine will become a member of the Alliance, and this is the decision of the allies and Ukraine. Russia does not have the right of veto," Stoltenberg added.
The day before, the head of the Ministry of Defense Oleksiy Reznikov announced that Ukraine and NATO will replace their current format of official meetings in the form of a Commission with a new Council format at the summit in Vilnius in July or after it.
