A successful counteroffensive of Ukraine can bring the world closer together and strengthen the state's position at the negotiating table to end the war with Russia.
This was reported by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken at a briefing.
"Ukraine's success in counteroffensive would do two things. It would strengthen its position at any negotiating table that emerges, and it could also lead to Putin finally focusing on negotiating an end to the war he started. And in that sense, it can bring the world closer, not further away," he said.
With this in mind, the US will continue to provide maximum support to Ukraine now so that it can succeed on the battlefield.
In addition, the support is aimed at ensuring that Ukraine can later create a powerful deterrent and defense capacity for its army, so that in the future, if Russia tries to carry out a new aggression, it will be able to deter it and, if necessary, effectively defend against it.
Blinken noted that military strength and economic and democratic strength are the most important things that Ukraine needs in order to succeed not only in order to survive, but also in order to develop further.
"And it also sends a very strong signal to President Putin that because he believes that he will survive Ukraine, that he will survive our countries, he is wrong; and that we are committed to Ukraine not only now, but also in the long term," he emphasized. The US Secretary of State also believes that Ukraine can expect to see a powerful package of both political and practical support at the NATO summit in Vilnius.
He noted that the Ukrainian people, like all countries that support them, want peace, but a fair and lasting one. And when Russia is ready to attack him, Ukraine and its allies will be able to support it. However, now, according to Blinken, Putin is not ready to go for it.
Counteroffensive of the Armed Forces
The Ukrainian military is advancing in the Bakhmut, Toretsk and Berdyansk directions. In a week, they took control of seven settlements - three in Zaporizhzhуа region and four in Donetsk region.
In total, 6.5 km of territory was liberated from the Russian invaders.
Negotiations with Russia
The position of Ukraine and its allies is the impossibility of conducting negotiations with the aggressor country until Russia withdraws its troops from our territory. The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, has repeatedly spoken about this.
Let's add that in October 2022, Zelenskyі decided that any dialogue with Putin was impossible, and the partners promised not to conduct negotiations on Ukraine without her presence.
