Russia legalized the deportation of residents from the occupied territories of Ukraine

In Russia, amendments were made to the law "On martial law", which, in particular, allows holding elections in the occupied territories and deporting residents.

This is reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the relevant "law".

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has already signed the law.

For example, the law of the Russian Federation "On Military Situation" prescribes the possibility of "forced and controlled transfer of citizens from the territory where martial law has been imposed to the territory where martial law has not been imposed."

At the same time, the law also introduced the possibility of holding referendums and elections to state and local self-government bodies, if the decision on them was made by the Central Electoral Commission "based on the results of consultations with the federal executive body, which performs functions related to the development and implementation of state policy, regulatory and legal regulation in the field of defense, and the federal executive body".

According to the "law", elections can be held both in the entire territory where martial law has been imposed, and only in a part of it.

It should be noted that from October 20, 2022, the Russian Federation allegedly "introduced martial law" in the so-called "DPR" and "LPR", as well as the occupied areas of Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions.

 Deportation of Ukrainians

After the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russia is conducting a campaign to remove Ukrainians, including children, from the occupied territories. They are exported to Crimea, Russia or Belarus.

Recently, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe adopted a resolution recognizing the deportation of Ukrainian children to Russia as genocide.

In March, the International Criminal Court even issued an arrest warrant for Putin and child rights commissioner Maria Lvova-Belova in connection with the illegal deportation of Ukrainian children to Russia.
