Ukraine is going to open an embassy in Mozambique

Ukraine intends to open an embassy in Maputo. The country has already received official consent from Mozambique.

This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

During his diplomatic tour of African countries, Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba paid the first visit to Mozambique in the history of bilateral relations.

In Maputo, he was received by the President of Mozambique, Filipe Newzi. Kuleba also held talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the country Veronika Makamo.

"My visit to Mozambique has three main tasks. First: to lay a political foundation for the development of mutually beneficial relations between our countries. Second: to discuss the implementation of President Volodymyr Zelenskyi's peace formula. Third: to develop promising directions for economic cooperation," Kuleba said.

The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs thanked the Mozambican side for giving official consent to the opening of the Ukrainian embassy in Maputo. He emphasized that the opening of the embassy takes place in the broader context of the renaissance of Ukrainian-African relations.

The minister informed the interlocutors in detail about the situation on the front lines and the efforts of Ukrainian defenders to repulse missile and drone attacks by the Russians and liberate the temporarily occupied territories.

He also invited Mozambique, especially as a country that is currently a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, to join the implementation of the Ukrainian peace formula, as this will be a significant contribution to the protection of the principles and goals of the UN Charter.

Kuleba also mentioned the "grain initiative", thanks to which Ukrainian food is supplied to the African continent. He noted that Ukraine is ready to include Mozambique in the list of countries that receive our grain as part of the Grain From Ukraine humanitarian initiative.

At the same time, he emphasized that Russia should stop using food as a weapon, stop obstructing the operation of the Black Sea Grain Corridor and unblock access to all Ukrainian ports.

Mozambique also supported the proposal to hold business forums with the participation of Ukrainian and Mozambican businesses to develop joint projects in the fields of trade, agriculture, food industry, information technology, digital transformation and pharmaceuticals.

 Ukraine's cooperation with Africa

Earlier this week, Kuleba went on a tour of African countries. The purpose of the visits was to attract countries to the Ukrainian formula for the world, enlist support for the "grain initiative" and create new opportunities for Ukrainian business.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also announced plans to hold the first Ukraine-Africa summit, as well as to open several new embassies on the territory of the African continent.
