An envelope with white powder was sent to the office of the German Minister of Economy

The office of German Economy Minister Robert Habeck in his electoral district received an envelope containing a white substance, prompting a large-scale police operation.

 This is reported by Reuters.

After a preliminary examination, the police believe that the substance was just fine sand, a police representative said. However, the investigation of the incident is still ongoing.

Employees at Habeck's office in Flensburg, near the northern border with Denmark, brought the envelope to the police on Wednesday afternoon, who later alerted the fire brigade.

The police operation lasted two hours and firefighters removed the substance from the building in a container.

Habek, whose ministry is responsible for energy and economy and is also the vice chancellor of Germany, is a policy figure aimed at mitigating the economic consequences of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

His opinion polls have fallen in recent weeks following a nepotism scandal in his ministry and criticism of his drive to phase out antiquated home heating systems.
