Sunak clarified that the new sanctions against Russia will include a ban on the import of copper, aluminum and nickel of Russian origin.
Britain is also preparing new individual sanctions against 86 individuals and companies to put further pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin and his supporters.
The British Prime Minister did not specify when the relevant sanctions will be adopted.
British authorities expect their G7 allies, as well as the EU, to impose similar sanctions.
It should be noted that a complete embargo on Russian precious metals and diamonds is included in the package of proposals that the expert group led by the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak and the former US ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul published on April 25. It also stipulates sanctions against the main Russian profile exporters - the companies "Alrosa" and "Hryb Diamonds".
The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said at a press conference in Kyiv on May 9 that the latest, 11th package of EU sanctions against the Russian Federation is focused on combating the circumvention of restrictions, and includes new tools for this purpose. According to media reports, it did not include restrictions on Russian diamonds, as well as nuclear energy.
On May 18, CNN reported that the EU is ready to introduce sanctions against Russian diamonds.
