The Parliament of Estonia approved a statement in support of Ukraine's desire to join NATO and called on it to be invited to the Alliance already at the July summit in Vilnius.
This was reported by the Riigikogu press service.
The application was supported by 92 votes, a total of 101 deputies in the parliament.
The text notes that notions of "spheres of influence" continue to pose a threat to peace and security on the continent.
Deputies recall that the declaration of the NATO summit in Bucharest declared that Ukraine should become a member of NATO, and Ukraine submitted an application for membership last year.
"Estonia, together with the other Baltic states, has always expressed support for Ukraine's accession to NATO and believes that at the next NATO summit on July 11-12 in Vilnius, concrete steps should be planned regarding how Ukraine will join NATO," the communique emphasized.
He calls on the Riigikogu to formulate concrete steps at the summit on how Ukraine's integration into NATO will take place, and to invite Ukraine to join the bloc.
The statement also adds that the victory of Ukraine defending itself against Russian aggression and its subsequent accession to NATO is the only way to guarantee lasting peace in Europe and the preservation of the rules-based world order.
The Seimas of Lithuania also previously adopted a statement calling for Ukraine to join NATO at the summit in Vilnius.
It will be recalled that NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that there is "no point in discussing when and how Ukraine can become a member of the Alliance" if it does not win the war "as a sovereign independent nation in Europe".
As reported, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyі called on NATO to make a "positive political decision" on Kyiv's application for membership in the Alliance at the July summit in Vilnius.
