Biden maintains lead over Trump as U.S. presidential election approaches - poll

Incumbent US President Joe Biden continues to maintain his lead over potential Republican challengers Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis as the 2024 election approaches.

This is evidenced by the survey conducted by Reuters/Ipsos.

Among registered voters, Biden leads his presidential predecessor by six percentage points in a hypothetical runoff election, 44% to 38%, maintaining the lead he has built up over the past few months.

At the same time, the poll shows that Biden may face some challenges if the situation on the US southern border worsens.

Last week, his administration rescinded Section 42, a pandemic-era policy that has prevented many migrants from seeking asylum, prompting fears of a surge in border crossing attempts. U.S. officials say tougher penalties for illegal border crossings and new asylum procedures should curb some of the migration.

It was previously reported that according to the Morning Consult survey, 61% of potential voters in the Republican Party primaries support former US President Donald Trump.

It will be recalled that on April 25, the current President of the United States, Joe Biden, officially announced his intention to run for the presidency for the second time in the 2024 elections.

At the same time, about half of the members of his Democratic Party believe that he should not seek re-election.
