The Georgian authorities are not considering the issue of restoring the railway connection between Georgia and Russia, the head of the ruling party "Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia" Iraklii Kobakhidze said.

"Any decision on our part is made in accordance with the principles that correspond to our national interests. Today this issue is not on the agenda, so I do not consider it correct to update it," Kobakhidze said.
On May 12, in an interview with rosZMI, the President of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Serhii Katirin said that Russia wants to "organize rail transit within the Silk Road route: China, the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas, Astara - Iran, Astara - Azerbaijan, Gabala - Azerbaijan, Marneuli - Georgia, the territory of Abkhazia to Russia".
The railway connection between Russia and Georgia was stopped after the Abkhaz war in the early 1990s.
Russian President Vladimir Putin signed decrees on May 10, according to which Russia will resume air traffic with Georgia, interrupted in 2019 at the initiative of the Russian side, and will also cancel the visa regime for Georgian citizens. Government officials, including the foreign minister, welcomed Putin's decision on behalf of official Tbilisi, noting the narrative of the alleged presence of up to a million Georgian citizens in Russia and the priority of "caring for the citizens of Georgia."
The State Department of the United States of America has warned Tbilisi about sanctions in case of resumption of direct flights.
