Slovakia canceled unilateral restrictions on imports from Ukraine after the EU decision

The Government of Slovakia on Friday approved the proposal of the Ministry of Agriculture to replace the unilateral ban on the import of agricultural goods from Ukraine by the decision of the European Commission.

 This is reported by TASR.

The decision means that the Slovak ban on the import of certain types of agricultural products and food products from Ukraine or originating from Ukraine is formally abolished. In addition, a special mode of transit of agricultural products through Slovakia is being introduced.

"In this area, only the legislation of the European Union is applied," Andrii Valner, a representative of the Slovak Ministry of Agriculture, confirmed.

According to the media, the lack of this decision by Slovakia and Hungary hampered the launch of EU financial support for farmers in Ukraine's neighboring countries.

Thus, the European Commission replaced the unilateral decisions of five countries with its own regulation and now the import ban concerns four agricultural products: wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower seeds from Ukraine.

At the same time, financial support is planned for farmers of these member states, which must be decided separately, and measures to facilitate the transit of Ukrainian grain through "solidarity routes" to other EU member states and third countries.
