Landscape fires are currently active in at least 18 Russian regions. In the Tyumen and Kurgan regions, seven people died because of them.
In the Kurgan region, six people died, 14 more were injured. The fire destroyed 42 houses. The governor of the region, Vadym Shumkov, called on people to evacuate if there is a threat. In case of complete loss of property, the victims will receive 50,000 rubles each, he promised.
A 49-year-old local resident died while fighting a fire in the Tyumen region, and two more people were injured. At least 124 buildings burned down in the region. Twelve fires were extinguished there, 23 more are still being extinguished. A state of emergency was introduced in the region and the evacuation of residents of several settlements was announced. Animals also die from fire.
In the village of Pershotravnevyi, Sverdlovsk region, two warehouses with gunpowder burned down. A firefighter was injured, the evacuation of the local population was announced. According to the authorities, the reason for what happened was forest fires: there were 64 of them in the region. Aviation security claims that this is not the case: on the contrary, the fire is moving into the forest from the warehouses.
Also, large forest fires were recorded in Omsk, Chelyabinsk, Amur Oblasts, Khabarovsk Territory and the Jewish Autonomous Oblast. A state of emergency was introduced in all these regions - locally or throughout the subject's territory. 60,000 hectares of dry grass are burning in the Trans-Baikal region, the fire has been contained. Extinguishing fires is complicated by windy and warm weather.
According to Aviation Safety, by the morning of May 8, there were 154 forest fires in Russia. The authorities of the regions and "Greenpeace" blame people for the natural disaster: the fires are caused by burning grass and unextinguished bonfires. In the Kurgan region, a criminal case was initiated under the article on negligence.
