Hungary's parliament approved the extension of Orbán's emergency powers due to the war in Ukraine

The Parliament of Hungary voted on Wednesday to extend the state of emergency in connection with the war in Ukraine until November 25.

This was reported by the Hungarian publication Telex.

132 deputies voted for this decision, 52 deputies were against, six abstained.

The special legal regime of the state of emergency allows the government to take key decisions - such as capping energy prices - without the approval of parliament.

The Hungarian government imposed a state of emergency in May 2022 due to the war in Ukraine. Since then, it has been extended several times, the last time was in November of last year.

The decision was justified by such arguments as an effective response to the war going on next door, helping refugees and preventing harmful economic consequences.

We will remind that in July 2022, under the leadership of the Prime Minister of Hungary, a new body was created - the Defense Council, which has "special powers" to "protect the security and sovereignty" of the country.
