Vice-speaker of the Parliament of Hungary in rosZMI: Ukraine needs Russia's permission to join NATO

The Vice-Speaker of the Parliament of Hungary, Dora Duro, said that Ukraine's accession to NATO without major security risks is possible only if Russia approves such a move in the form of an agreement.

This was stated by Duro, a representative of the far-right Hungarian party "Our Fatherland", in an interview with "Izvestia".

Duro said that "we do not see any circumstances that would allow us to support the expansion of NATO at the expense of Ukraine."

"As long as Ukraine's borders are contested and the armed conflict continues, even NATO's own rules exclude Kyiv from joining the Alliance," she said.

Then she put forward a condition for Ukraine's accession to NATO, which, according to her, must be Russia's consent.

"Without the risk of starting a war, Ukraine's accession is possible only if Russia approves it in the form of a certain agreement," said a representative of the Hungarian parliament.

In this context, Duro also criticized Kyiv for the alleged "oppression" of national minorities.

"The Ukrainian leadership does not want to guarantee elementary rights to Hungarians, Romanians, Russians and other minorities in the country, and tries to limit their existing rights, especially in the area of language use. In light of the increase in military aid, Kyiv feels even less need to compromise and guarantee adequate rights of the native Hungarian ". to the population of Transcarpathia," she said.

Duro said that the Ukrainian authorities could take the "right step" in this direction and give the Transcarpathian region and other regions territorial autonomy.

On April 20, during a visit to Kyiv, Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stated that the future of Ukraine lies in NATO, and all Alliance members agree with this.

The Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orbán, expressed his indignation at the statement of the Secretary General of NATO that Ukraine should become a member of the Alliance in the future.
