The organizer of anti-government demonstrations in the Czech Republic, Ladislav Vrabel, went on trial and was sentenced to four months in prison, suspended for a year and a half, for lying about the Czech Republic's plans to launch a nuclear attack on Russia.
This is reported by idnes.cz.
In November of last year, the organizer of the "Nonviolent Revolution - Czech Republic First" campaign, Ladislav Vrabel, published a video on Twitter in which he claimed that the Czech government was allegedly planning to attack Russia with a nuclear strike.
"Sit on the couch and enjoy the last months of your life," Vrabel said, warning that in response, Russian nuclear missiles would fly toward the Czech Republic.
"The government is preparing to purchase F-35 aircraft because they can carry nuclear weapons," Ladislav Vrabel also stated in court.
Vrabel's statements, according to prosecutor Kateryna Kandova, could cause the public to fear a possible war between the Czech Republic and the Russian Federation.
"This information is objectively untrue," Kandova said in court.
The publication notes that there are no nuclear missiles or bombs in the arsenal of the Czech Republic. The country cannot purchase them, as such a move would violate the treaty on the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons.
The Czech Republic does not currently have nuclear warhead carriers either. The Czech Air Force uses L-159 Alca tactical aircraft and JAS-39 Gripen supersonic fighters, which cannot take on board and bomb targets with nuclear bombs.
According to the announced plans, the Czech Republic is considering the purchase of 24 Lockheed F-35A Lightning II combat aircraft, which can be carriers of nuclear warheads. The supply contract, however, has not yet been signed and, even if it happens, the first new aircraft of the mentioned type could be adopted by the Czech Air Force only in 2027-29.
