The Minister of Agriculture of Romania, Petre Dea, on Wednesday informed his Ukrainian colleague Mykola Solsky about the introduction of inspections of agricultural goods imported from Ukraine at the border.
This is reported by Digi24.
As the minister announced, Romania will introduce additional security measures - sealing and tracking - for vehicles going through Romanian territory to third countries, to protect Romanian farmers who have faced difficulties due to the influx of grain from Ukraine.
"Romania, as an EU member state, supports the efforts of the European Commission to support Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression and will continue to ensure the transit of grain from this country to third countries and traditional trade routes," the minister emphasized.
Also, Romania from the environment introduces customs control for all agri-food products coming from Ukraine, with the selection of samples to determine quality in accordance with European legislation, and not at the point of destination, as it was until now.
"Such a decision was made in connection with the fact that in another European country, an excess of the level of pesticides established by the EU was found," the message emphasizes. Slovakia previously declared about pesticides in Ukrainian grain.
Also, the Minister of Agriculture of Romania appealed to the Ukrainian side with a request to limit the export of grain and oil crops to Romania as soon as possible, "taking into account the difficulties faced by Romanian farmers."
Both ministers agreed to hold a bilateral meeting on Friday, April 21, to resolve the problematic issues.
As you know, in recent days Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and Bulgaria have banned the import of Ukrainian agricultural products, in Romania there are calls for this due to the damage to local farmers due to lower prices of Ukrainian products.
