The plane was detained at Toronto Airport on February 27, 2022.

Ukraine will receive An-124 confiscated from Russia from Canada. This was announced by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.

The transfer will be made as part of Canada's new sanctions against Russian enterprises.

"A new package of sanctions against Russia from Canada. In particular, against the Volga-Dnipro company. We are preparing to confiscate the AN-124 aircraft and other assets of the aggressor in Canada and transfer them to Ukraine," Shmyhal wrote.

Canada imposed sanctions against Russia's largest cargo air group, Volga-Dnipro, on April 11. An-124 "Ruslan" was detained at the Toronto airport in February 2022.

According to Russian media, the plane was transporting coronavirus tests from China and was chartered by the Canadian government. It landed in Toronto on February 27, 2022, two hours before Canadian authorities announced the closure of the skies to Russian airlines.

After that, the board was detained and stated that "the aircraft will be detained until the expiration of this restriction."
