A woman suspected of corporate espionage was detained at an oil refinery in the Swedish city of Gothenburg.

This is reported by TV4 Nyheterna.

The operation was carried out on Thursday afternoon and is surrounded by high secrecy.

Police are very reluctant to talk about the case, but according to TV4 Nyheterna, it involves a woman who was arrested at the Preemraff factory on Hisingen in Gothenburg. According to TV4 Nyheterna sources, she is probably a Russian citizen.

She was later arrested and is likely to be suspected of corporate espionage.

As noted, suspicions of espionage are first investigated by ordinary police. The security police (Säpo) must be informed about this, it could confirm on Friday morning.

"We know about it, but it's a matter for the police, so you have to go there," says Gabriel Wernstedt, Säpo's spokesperson.

According to the TV channel, several people were brought in for questioning, and several searches were conducted in various places.

"At this time, the investigation is at an early stage, and citing the confidentiality of the preliminary investigation, we cannot say anything," said the spokeswoman for the Western Region Police, Karolina Karlsson.

Preemraff claims that the suspect worked at their business and that the police conducted a search.

"We can confirm that a police operation was conducted at our refinery in Gothenburg. The person in question works for one of our subcontractors," said Dani Bakteg, Preemraff's press manager.

"I can confirm that as of last night, one person has been arrested on suspicion of corporate espionage," said Gothenburg District Attorney James von Reiss, who is leading the investigation.
