The Prime Minister of Romania, Nicolae Chuke, said that his country's accession to the Schengen zone will contribute to the support of Moldova and Ukraine.
He said this after a meeting with the EU Commissioner for the Internal Market, Thierry Breton, NewsMaker reports.
According to the Romanian Prime Minister, the liberalization of movement, business and services will allow the EU to support neighboring countries more actively.
"I discussed with Commissioner Schengen, which is very important not only for our country, but also for the entire set of measures taken at the European level. And as soon as we receive this status, it will facilitate all the steps that are taken at the level of the European Union to support of all the countries of the eastern flank, as well as Ukraine and Moldova," Chuke noted.
At the end of March, Romanian President Klaus Iohannis expressed hope that the European Union would be able to agree on the beginning of his country's accession to the Schengen zone during this year, although he emphasized that this decision does not depend on it.
