The European Commissioner for the Internal Market, Thierry Breton, has announced a project to identify cyber threats to the European Union and to counter them, on which more than one billion euros will be spent.
Breton stated this in an interview with Les Echos.
"Our goal is to create a 'European cyber shield' that will allow for much better detection of (cyber) attacks at the highest level. Today, up to 190 days can pass between the start of the spread of malicious software and the start of an attack," explained the European Commissioner.
He added that investments in the EU's "cyber shield" will amount to more than one billion euros, two-thirds of which will be allocated from the European budget.
In another interview with the French channel LCI, Breton announced the creation of several operational centers to strengthen the cyber security of member states.
