Finland's Prime Minister Sanna Marin said she will step down as head of the Social Democratic Party after losing parliamentary elections on Sunday.

She made such a statement on Wednesday, reports Finnish broadcaster Yle.

Marin has indicated that she has no intention of continuing to lead her Social Democratic Party after the party's congress in September, and she will become an ordinary deputy in the newly elected parliament.

"These were extremely difficult years and difficult times. Now, when the election results are like this, I believe that I have the opportunity to open a new page in my own life," said Marin.

She proved her decision by the fact that the last government period was difficult, and her own endurance survived many tests. Marin hopes that he will be able to live more calmly in the future.

The head of the Finnish government also said that she had not received any offers to work in international positions.

In the election on Sunday, April 2, Marin was aiming for another term as prime minister, but her Social Democratic Party came only third.
