The Russian Ministry of Defense is conducting a targeted information operation to restore the reputation of the Vladivostok-based 155th Marine Brigade, which has become synonymous with recent Russian failures in Ukraine.
This is stated in the intelligence review of the British Ministry of Defense on Monday.
During March 2023, the activities of the 155th brigade were covered with the help of the most common video recordings of combat actions of Russians, which were filmed by cameras on helmets. Russian propagandist Volodymyr Solovyov also visited the brigade.
In addition, there were public statements that the compound is in "high spirits and fully determined to achieve its goal." They also circulated footage showing the 155th brigade being re-equipped with modified tanks.
In fact, the 155th Brigade was likely placed on non-combat status at least twice in the past six months due to its involvement in tactically flawed frontal attacks near Vugledar in Donetsk region, the summary noted.
Efforts by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation to restore the brigade's image probably reflect concern that its failures are increasingly associated with the Russian top military leadership, the British agency believes.
