About 100 million bullets and about 300,000 shells were transported to Russia via the Caspian Sea by two cargo ships Musa Jalil and Begey, which left an Iranian port under the flags of the Russian Federation, Sky News reported on March 8 with reference to a source.
The interlocutor of Sky News claims that there were about 200 containers of weapons on two ships in total, and that Russia paid for the supply in cash.
At the same time, the TV channel notes that it was unable to verify information on the volume of supplies from independent sources.
Since the fall of 2022, Russia has been using Iranian-made Shahed-131/136 kamikaze drones, which the Russian military has renamed "Geran-1" and "Geran-2", for strikes on military and energy facilities in Ukraine. In February 2023, The Guardian newspaper wrote that Iran handed Russia a batch of reusable long-range attack drones.
In the fall, The Washington Post reported that Iran would supply Russia with Fateh-110 and Zulfikar short-range ballistic missiles. In March, sources told the Financial Times that Russia was refraining from buying Iranian ballistic missiles in Iran because of fears that the US would then begin supplying Ukraine with long-range ATACMS missiles.
