The noose is tightening: the head of the European Council named the main sanctions against the Kremlin

Within a year of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the European Union adopted major sanctions against the Kremlin. Further, the loop will only be tightened.

This was noted by the head of the European Council, Charles Michel, in an interview with the Belgian publication Le Soir.

"The main thing has already been done, as we have introduced sanctions against fossil fuels," he said, noting that after this there are not many additional options for expanding sanctions.

According to him, each subsequent package of EC sanctions is aimed at "tightening the noose" and preventing circumvention attempts.

Michel called on the Europeans to increase pressure on the Russian occupiers, since the next few weeks may become "decisive in the military and, therefore, in the political plan."

As a reminder, the ambassadors of the European Union countries plan to finalize the tenth package of sanctions against Russia and restrictions against Belarus at a meeting on February 22.
