The Pope received a delegation from Sulkhan-Saba Orbeliani University and urged "to use education and faith to fight against darkness, indifference and hatred." This is reported by "Vatican News".
As noted in the press release, Pope Francis in his address to the members of the delegation from Georgia, who arrived at the Vatican, emphasized the importance of education for young people.
"Education helps the young generation to grow and take the most fruitful roots," Francis said.
The pontiff also talked about Georgia and said that it is a young state with an ancient history. In his speech, Francis also drew attention to the Georgian word "education", which, according to the pontiff, comes from the word "bright". According to the Pope, education can change everything, just as light can illuminate everything in a dark room.
"The history of Georgia is also full of examples of the transition from darkness to light, when the country managed to be in the light during difficult times associated with foreign invaders, the Georgian people managed to resist these difficulties, and this is the merit of culture and faith. Georgians, starting from the youth, deserve wider opportunities. At the same time, typical Georgian humanism with its unique beauty deserves to be appreciated elsewhere, and Georgian art, music and other forms of self-expression will be further enriched as a result of respectful interaction with other cultures. As an example, I will also use light here, which exists not to appear by itself, but to illuminate the space around it and beyond. The same is the case with culture, which opens new horizons and expands borders," the Pope said.
