VR appealed to the Georgian authorities with a request to transfer Saakashvili for treatment abroad

During the meeting of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the People's Deputies supported the resolution to appeal to the authorities of Georgia, as well as to international organizations, regarding the transfer of the former president of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili, for treatment abroad.  "Saakashvili needs treatment. Judging by the published photos, his condition is critical," said the People's Deputy.

 

 In turn, the head of the political party "Servant of the People" Olena Shulyak said: "Mikheil must survive. Not only for himself and his family. Not only for the sake of Ukraine, which values ​​the life of every citizen. But also for the sake of preserving basic democratic and universal human values. And our it is our duty to remind Georgia, Europe, and the world about this."

 

 In the resolution, the Verkhovna Rada called on the Georgian authorities to provide Saakashvili with the necessary medical care, appropriate conditions of detention, and also to grant the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubynts, access to him.

 

 In addition, the parliament appealed to the government of Georgia with a request to allow the politician to be urgently transported abroad for the necessary treatment given the politician's serious condition. The Verkhovna Rada also appealed to the European Parliament, the Council of the European Union, the European Commission, PACE and the parliaments of the EU member states with a request to "strengthen the political dialogue" with the Georgian authorities regarding the "urgent transfer to European or American medical institutions" of Saakashvili.

 

 On February 2, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine called on the Georgian authorities to immediately stop abusing the country's former president Mikheil Saakashvili in prison and hand him over to Ukraine.
