The president of the republic, Sauli Niiniste, said that after joining NATO, Finland has no intention of importing nuclear weapons into its territory. He said this while speaking at the opening of the National Defense Courses (MPK), writes Yle.
The president noted that there are no signs that anyone is suggesting that the Finns deploy nuclear weapons in the country.
Also, according to the publication, Niiniste added that nuclear weapons are an integral part of NATO's deterrence forces. At the same time, it is a tool of prevention, rather than an end in itself.
The politician emphasized that a nuclear war cannot be won, therefore it should not be waged.
Regarding the situation in Ukraine, the President of Finland stated that none of the parties is compromising on their positions. He also noted that Ukraine has every right to defend its territory and borders.
At the same time, Niiniste welcomes the efforts of the presidents of France and Germany, who maintain contacts with Moscow, because "the world is worth making efforts, even if they may turn out to be useless."
