British Prime Minister Liz Truss announced her intention to resign after 6 weeks in office.

 "I came into office at a time of great economic and international instability. Families and businesses were worried about how to pay their bills," she said.

 Truss added that she was elected "with a mandate to change this" and that her government had succeeded in reducing citizens' bills.

 "I cannot implement the mandate entrusted to me. I informed the king about my intention to resign," she admitted.

 According to her, there will be elections for the leadership of the Conservative Party, which "should be completed within the next week."

 The Trust said that "this will ensure that our financial plans continue to be met".

 She will remain in the post of prime minister until a successor is elected.

 The resignation announcement came on the 45th day of Liz Truss' tenure as Prime Minister.
