Orban criticized the sanctions and called for peace talks between Ukraine and the Russian Federation

The Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orban, once again stated that the European Union's sanctions against Russia had failed and called for peace negotiations between the Russian Federation and Ukraine. He said this on Kossuth Radio, and the text of his speech was published on the government's website.

According to Orbán, there is a "peace camp" to which Hungary belongs, and where the solution to the current crisis can be seen through peace negotiations.

"The Holy Father stands for peace. Kissinger stands for peace. We were in Germany, there is a respected philosopher named Habermas, a leftist, not from our political community. But he says the same thing as us. There are Americans, Republicans , global businessmen. I feel that the voice for a ceasefire and then for a peace agreement after the ceasefire is getting stronger," he said.

Orbán also said that sanctions against Russia are poorly designed and energy restrictions are a dubious mechanism because in world history sanctions are usually imposed by those in a dominant position.

"Now in the energy sector, it is doubtful that we have a dominant position, because we are the buyers, and the Russians are the suppliers," said the Hungarian Prime Minister.
