In Scholz's party, hopes for the supply of German tanks to Ukraine were dashed

The General Secretary of the ruling Social Democratic Party of Germany, Kevin Kuhnert, dispelled expectations for the delivery of German tanks to Ukraine.

 This is reported by Spiegel.

"We support circular exchanges, but with Eastern European partners," Kuehnert told the RTL/ntv channel, referring to the process of transferring German weapons to Eastern European NATO partners instead of transferring Soviet-style equipment to Ukraine.

Künert noted that no country had previously supplied Western tanks to Ukraine.

In addition, according to him, the position remains in force, "that we do not want to be gradually drawn into the war, we do not want to encourage Russia to act irrationally as a result and attack completely different states."

We will remind you that after the serious successes of Ukraine in the return of territories in the Kharkiv region, German political parties, including coalition parties, demand from the government to strengthen support for Ukraine with weapons. In particular, transfer Leopard 2 tanks and Marder BMPs.

Prior to that, Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) opposed the supply of Western-style tanks to Ukraine.

Earlier, the publication Welt reported that Scholz rejected the request of Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmygal for the supply of additional heavy weapons. It was, in particular, about the supply of Leopard 2.
