British intelligence considers it unlikely that new military exercises in Belarus are evidence of preparations for direct participation in the war in Ukraine.
This is stated in the intelligence review of the British Ministry of Defense on Thursday.
"While Russia's use of Belarusian territory played an important role in Russia's failed offensive against Kyiv early in the invasion, Belarusian forces have limited offensive capabilities and there is little chance that they would deploy their forces in Ukraine. It is highly unlikely that these exercises are evidence of direct preparations. participation of Belarus in the war in Ukraine," the message reads.
On September 8, the Belarusian military began planned exercises to return the territory captured by "enemy forces" and ensure the security of its borders. The training will last until September 14, 2022.
The training will take place not far from Brest, near the Belarusian capital Minsk and in the north-eastern region of Vitebsk.
Oleksiy Gromov, the deputy chief of the main operational department of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, assured that the Ukrainian military is ready for the development of events during the command and staff exercises in Belarus from September 8 to 14.
