Scholz explained why Germany did not send tanks to Ukraine

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz believes that his country is helping Ukraine sufficiently with weapons, and the decision to transfer this or that equipment, according to him, is made in coordination with allies. Scholz said this in an interview with the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitunh.

"Germany has been supplying heavy weapons to Ukraine for months - for example, Gepard anti-aircraft self-propelled guns, rocket launchers, Panzerhaubitze 2000... As chancellor, I broke with the long-standing tradition that made such deliveries impossible," he said.

When asked why Germany does not transfer combat aircraft or tanks to Ukraine, the chancellor mentioned the article of US President Joe Biden in The New York Times, "and the same position of the rest of the partners in the Group of Seven."

"I said from the very beginning: we will not act alone and will closely coordinate our actions with our allies. The situation is changing. I also agreed with Biden to supply Ukraine with rocket launchers," Scholz said.

"We are doing what is necessary and right. But a certain 'division of labor' makes sense. Germany can emphasize air defense and artillery," he added.
