Having a visa does not guarantee entry to the EU for Russians. This was announced by the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, during the interparliamentary conference on common EU foreign policy on Monday, September 5.
According to him, he heard from the conference participants that the EU should not issue visas to Russian citizens at all, but this is not what the ministers agreed on.
The heads of foreign affairs of the European Union agreed to suspend the agreement on the simplification of the visa regime from 2007.
However, despite the fact that there will not be a complete ban on issuing tourist visas to Russians, EU countries will be able to independently regulate the admission of Russians to their territory, Borrell noted.
"The fact that I have a visa does not mean that I have the right to enter this or that country. It may happen that a person is not allowed even with a visa. For example, in the USA, having a visa, you can be refused entry to "driving for one reason or another. The same applies to Europe," he explained.
