185,000 children who fled the war in Ukraine started the new school year in Polish schools.

This was stated by the Minister of Education of Poland Przemysław Czarnek on RMF FM.

According to estimates, about 700-800 thousand children from Ukraine of school age live in Poland.

The vast majority of them started their studies in primary schools, over 40 thousand - in kindergartens and several thousand in gymnasiums, technical schools and craft schools.

"185 thousand," Czarnek said, answering the question of exactly how many Ukrainian children went to Polish schools, and added that this is 7 thousand less than on June 24, when the 2021/2022 school year ended.

According to the minister, a large number of Ukrainian students in Poland study remotely.

"Distance education in Ukraine will continue and most of these children will certainly be on distance education in Ukraine," said the head of the Polish Ministry of Education. "Other children study remotely or return to Ukraine or are in another country," he said.

Czarnek also reported that local self-government bodies received 900 million zlotys to support Ukrainian children in Polish schools until June.

As reported, up to 60,000 children of Ukrainian military refugees went to Czech schools on September 1.
