The leader of Georgia's ruling party accused the former European ambassador of having a negative influence on Georgia's relations with the EU

The leader of the Georgian Dream, Irakli Kobakhidze, publicly "attacked" the EU ambassador who had finished his work in Tbilisi. Kobakhidze said that EU ambassador to Georgia Carl Hartzel, who recently finished his work in Tbilisi, has played "only a negative role" in the relations between Georgia and the EU.

This was reported by the Novosti-Georgia agency.

"During this whole period, for various reasons, including the fact that we applied to the EU and so on, we refrained from commenting while he [Karl Hartzel] was the EU ambassador. But today, when he has completed his mission, we can safely say that, unfortunately, Karl Hartzel has played only a negative role in relations between the European Union and Georgia. It's very sad," Kobakhidze said.

He also expressed hope that the next EU ambassador "will act differently."

Karl Harzel ended his four-year tenure on July 20. Before his departure, he recorded a farewell video thanking the Georgian people, calling Georgia a European country, and expressing hope that the country would take advantage of the opportunities offered by official recognition of the European perspective.
