The Ministry of Education and Science will make changes in the curriculum for several subjects: defense of the Fatherland, foreign literature, history of Ukraine and world history. The deputy minister of education and science Andriy Vitrenko said this on the air of the telethon news.
"As for the changes in the curriculum of Ukrainian schools. According to the order of the Ministry of Education and Science, groups of highly professional specialists are now working to create changes to the curriculum. By June 15 these groups must submit the results to the MES, and we will make these changes by separate normative documents," Vitrenko said.
According to Vitrenko, first of all, these are changes to the curricula of the subject "Defense of the Fatherland".
"The changes will be about strengthening the practical orientation of this subject. Children should know and be able to do that, the national patriotic education will be strengthened, and there will be a separate block, which will deal with mine action. So that children understand what must not be touched, what is dangerous for them, "- Vitrenko said.
Also, he said, a novel by Leo Tolstoy, for example, will be excluded from foreign literature.
"War and Peace. Such will not be studied in Ukraine, that is, everything that glorifies the Orcian troops, all of it will disappear from the program of foreign literature. The history of Ukraine and world history - we are proud because we are already based on national Ukrainian archival documents. There will be changes in the methodology of teaching history and world history, working groups are working thoroughly on all these changes and the relationship between the Ukrainian nation and the "Russian world" will be written out on the basis of historical truth," Vitrenko said.
He added that the issue of publishing new textbooks is also being worked out. A teaching methodology will also be prepared, taking into account the changes made to the curricula.
As for whether any Russian writers will remain in the program, Vitrenko noted that discussions on this issue are underway, but the foreign literature program will be updated.
