Biden: Russia must pay a long-term price for barbarism in Ukraine

U.S. President Joe Biden said Monday that Russia must pay a lasting price for its barbarism in Ukraine in the form of sanctions imposed on Russia by the United States and its allies.

Biden said this Monday at a news conference in Tokyo, European Pravda reported.

"One of the reasons why Putin should pay a high price for the barbarism in Ukraine ... the reason is that it's not just about Ukraine," Joe Biden said.

He said that if, after any impending rapprochement between Russia and Ukraine, "sanctions are not largely maintained, what signal does that send to China about the cost of trying to take Taiwan by force?"

Biden also said that the U.S. is prepared for direct military intervention in the event of Chinese aggression against Taiwan.

He also noted that he does not expect China to attempt to invade Taiwan, but that avoiding an invasion depends on the world making clear to China all the consequences.
