US President Joe Biden has a major task at the UN General Assembly: to ensure international support for Ukraine, The Washington Post reports. However, as the publication notes, this task will be difficult to accomplish this year.

According to the publication, the Ukrainian authorities expected to present significant successes in the offensive, but the Russian defense is still holding.

The war has had a negative impact on food and energy prices, which has increased calls for negotiations from developing countries. Support for Ukraine among the American public is declining, but Joe Biden "will have the help of the most charismatic voice of the conflict: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy."

With Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping absent at the event, Biden and Zelenskyy have "a chance to dominate the agenda and provide compassionate attention to leaders of less wealthy countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America."

The US, however, will not agree to possible calls for peace. Important meetings are expected with the leaders of Brazil and Iran, who are already in New York.
