EU cannot mediate in negotiations between Ukraine and Russia - Borrell

The European Union cannot become a mediator in the negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. This opinion was expressed by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell.

This was reported by Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.

He specified that only Ukraine, Russia and the mediator should determine the outcome of the negotiations.

"Not us. The Russians will not accept it, just as we will not accept Russia as a mediator," Borrel noted,

He added, however, that China is also not suitable because it leans toward Russia.

According to him, "Turkey is doing a very good job there. It has good relations with both sides."

"The best thing, of course, would be the United Nations," Borrell concluded.

As a reminder, Mikhail Podolyak, adviser to the head of the Office of the President, earlier reported that the negotiation process between Ukraine and Russia slowed down due to exhaustive materials about Russian military atrocities near Kyiv.

The Russian side's desire to conduct active combat operations in the east of our country also contributed to this.

Before that, President Volodymyr Zelensky said that any pseudo-referendums in the occupied territories would complicate negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that negotiations between Ukraine and Russia should be resumed. In his opinion, the process should become more concrete and faster.
